Diving With the Mayans (1998)

Released in the summer of ’98, Diving is representative of the musical diversity that characterizes the Callbacks. Ben Folds Five, Duran Duran, U2, Cake, Aretha Franklin, and Paul Simon all rub shoulders on this album. Several of Diving’s offerings have garnered honors from the Contemporary A Cappella Society. The Callbacks have maintained their musical diversity with offerings as varied as the folk sounds of Simon and Garfunkel, the R+B harmonies of En Vogue, and the driving punk of the group Cake. Diving also features “Rio”, arranged by James Lozada ’99 and judged Best Arrangement at the 1997 CARA competition, as well as “Tempted,” for which soloist Mike Rizzo ’99′s musical stylings won him the Best Soloist award in the 1998 CARA competition. Kaleidoscope (1994)

1994′s Kaleidoscope, our sophomore recording effort, is reflective of the shift to the contemporary that had begun to show itself in college a cappella at this time. The album’s progressiveness, fully on display in the spectacular rendition of Paul Simon’s “Homeless,” is balanced by a great sense of humor and fun. Kaleidoscope, the Callbacks’ first compact disc, is a very fun album as well as a solid a cappella performance. Callback-ian humor is fully on display in our ever-so-old-school “Callbacks’ Rap,” “Sara Lee,” and the “TV Medley.” Musically, however, Kaleidoscope is rife with goodness, including The Letter, which still remains our signature song to this day, and a stirring reprise of “Homeless,” which debuted on Off the Record, our first (cassette) recording! …..
