CARA Awards, 2003

We are thrilled to announce that the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America (CASA) has chosen to recognize our efforts in two categories of the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs)! "6 Underground," arranged by Chris Shutzer '04 with soloist Christina Vargas '04, was nominated for Best Mixed Collegiate Song, and our newest album, 9 to 5: The Late Sessions was given a nod in the Best Mixed Collegiate Album category. The Callbacks are among only 5 groups in North America to be nominated for either of these awards, and we are grateful to CASA for this distinguished honor.

Best of Collegiate A Cappella, 2003

Though 9 to 5: The Late Sessions had not been released yet, its second track, "6 Underground," was picked from over 2000 submissions to be included on the Best of Collegiate A Cappella (BOCA) compilation CD produced by Varsity Vocals. This only the second track in our history to be chosen for the CD. Click here for a complete BOCA 2003 track list.

ICCA Competition, 2002

In 2002, the Callbacks returned to the renamed International Championships of Collegiate A Cappella. Once again, we advanced to semifinals with a runner-up ranking in the quarterfinal round, and were ranked third place group in the semifinal round. Judges comments suggest that we were too bootylicious, and that they were not, in fact, ready for this jelly. Congratulations to arrangers Matt Thompson and Marcel Laflamme, who netted a Best Arrangement award in quarterfinal competition for their "Princes Familiar"; and Matt and Chris Shutzer, who won the Best Arrangement award again in semifinal competition with the "I Will" Surprise.

This year, the Callbacks competed again in the NCCA competition. In quarterfinal rounds, our arrangement of "Like a Prayer" (originally by Nick Wagle '99 and Esther Riggins '99, rearranged in 1999 by Derek Smith '00) won the award for best arrangement. The Callbacks were selected the first-place group, and moved on to the semifinals. In semifinal competition, our arrangement "Two Points For Honesty" (Sasha Haines-Stiles '02) received best arrangement honors. Also, the Callbacks were once again awarded first place, and went to Lincoln Center, where we earned a national ranking of third place, making us the highest-ranking coed group in the nation.

CARA Awards, 1997

Each year, the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America honors the best cd tracks in the collegiate a cappella recording industry by including them on the Best of College A Cappella cd (BOCA). In 1997, our recording of "On Your Shore" by Enya was included on the BOCA compilation. In addition to this award, Nicole Green, who sings lead vocals on the song "On Your Shore," has also received a Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) nomination. Nicole was nominated for Best Soloist in a Coed Group, one of the most prestigious honors in the collegiate a cappella community. It can be found on our cd Ninety Miles an Hour as well as BOCA 3.
